Took a few more pre-renovation photographs this afternoon, nice walk even though bitterly cold and a snow flurry, which didn't last long enough for me!

This Sunday 4th March is Tidy Town Day and it coincides quite nicely with the Great British Spring Clean weekend.
If you could spare a couple of hours, please come and join us. We will be meeting at the Town Hall in the Market Place for a 1pm start, finishing around 3pm. All necessary equipment is supplied but please bring along anything you have that you think may help. Please wear appropriate clothing, suitable footwear and protective gloves (we have some if you don’t!) Everyone is welcome and as always, you will be rewarded with tea and cake! We would love to see you there! In 2016 Melksham Rotary Club had 15,000 crocus bulbs to plant as part of the organisations 'Purple4Polio' campaign. An appeal was launched in Melksham Independent News for volunteers to help with this project, especially families. 5,000 were planted in St Michael's churchyard and the rest elsewhere in the town. Today they looked stunning on my walk round town, on this cold but beautiful sunny day.
Terri Welch hosted another flag making session at the Town Hall today. If anyone else interested in joining this group and making Melksham look colourful again this year, contact the group via this site.
Terri and Judith have been busy on the Library beds again this week, Terri reported that the ivy has nearly all been removed and the bed is looking a lot better. Still have to get Terri trained to take photo's, but not to worry I popped round there to record their good work!
Today Project Manager Carl Gill met staff & students from Lackham College, who are going to start work on the restoration of Riverside Walk. This will be a regular Tuesday afternoon session. (see SWIBM projects tab for more details).
As many of you will already know, Melksham is being featured in a new BBC series called Blooming Marvellous.
The series is starting on Monday 23rd April, BBC2 at 6.30pm. It will be showing every weekday for 3 weeks, and our particular episode is on Wednesday 2nd May. So please do spread the word. We are hoping to be able to have a public viewing event that evening, so please watch this space for more info - Kathy Iles A FLAG-making session took place recently in the Town Hall. Terri Welch of the group said, “After the success of the flags last summer, an enthusiastic group met to plan the new flags for this year.
“It was good to welcome new faces to the team, with their new ideas. The Guides and Brownies are hoping to make their own flags, which they will enjoy and be proud to see flying during the summer. “It would be great to have other groups join us and make their own flags as a way to promote the group. The workshops will take place every other Saturday, 1 – 3pm at the Town Hall, so next date is 24th February. “We need every sort of skill, particularly people able to design the flags. It is a very mixed group who enjoy a fun afternoon. Come along and join us. SWIB Melksham are very sad to announce that former Councillor Mike Mills passed away at the weekend. Only a short time ago Mike won Melksham Person of the Year Award (see link below), a truly fitting award for a lovely person, Mike was a remarkable person as part of SWIBM/BRAG and so much else, he will be very sorely missed and our thoughts go out to wife Marilyn and family at this very sad time.
http://melkshamnews.com/2018/01/31/community-volunteer-is-melksham-person-of-the-year/ Big thank you to everyone who turned out for Tidy Town today on this very cold Sunday afternoon. Welcome to Pat who joined us for the first time. Several area's were tidies today - library flower beds in Lowbourne, Melksham House, Skate Park and river path by Sainsbury's. Hugh amount of litter collected. Kathy and I had a great laugh along river path and followed around by a very friendly Robin. A few pictures from today, the rest can be found on the 'Tidy Town Day' tab.
As usual I have been rambling round Melksham with my camera! The last couple of days, despite the cold weather, have had the benefit of blue skies and sunshine coupled with longer daylight. Every day walking to and fro work, I cross the river over the town bridge and lately with so much rain the level of the river has risen and dropped pretty drastically, at the moment with the river level down, the banks on both side are strewn with litter, this also same story for the river path running parallel with Sainsbury's, looks appalling! Depending on the plans for Sunday, I would like to don my wellies and tackle this area! - Linda De Santiz MELKSHAM’s new town councillor has vowed to help tackle littering and anti-social behaviour in the town and make parks more inclusive. In last month’s by-election, Vanessa Fiorelli, for the Liberal Democrats, was elected to represent the Melksham South ward. Originally from Australia, cllr Fiorelli moved to the UK three years ago, settling down in Bath and finding work at the Post Office in Melksham. Last year in July, cllr Fiorelli and her partner made the decision to move to Melksham. Cllr Fiorelli said, “When we first moved to Melksham, my partner and I, we really wanted to get stuck in and get involved with the community. So we started getting involved with things like the town tidy days, and started going to the Melksham Lib Dems meetings. It really piqued my interest in the town. “When the role of town councillor became available I thought ‘why not?!’, I really love getting stuck in and to be able to represent people who perhaps don’t normally have a voice, that’s what I love, I get to help people and get to take care of people. “What the council is already doing, making Melksham a better place, is really interesting to me. They are already on the right track and I want to be part of that. “We are going to achieve some brilliant things and they already have done so much, much more than other councils have done.” Discussing her own personal goals for the town, cllr Fiorelli said, “When I was out and about talking to people in Melksham South, the things that kept popping up that people are genuinely concerned about are the little things that can make the biggest differences. “Things like, the cleanliness and appearance of their area, their street, their parks. Litter, what are we doing about people who are littering and why isn’t it bing picked up? Tackling anti-social behaviour; what can we do to solve the root cause? “One thing I really want to see is inclusive play equipment in our parks. This is equipment that any child can play on, kids of all physical abilities, they can play on it together, alone, whatever they want. “I’m the type of person who will identify a problem, think about how we can fix it and also question if people have the tools and resources to fix it.” To contact cllr Fiorelli, email: vanessa.fiorelli @melkshamtown.co.uk Below, Vanessa getting "stuck in", 2017 with The Woody Project & earlier this year at Roundpond..
