Harry the heron is also struggling with this very hot weather and no rain - the River Avon is rapidly becoming devoid of water - far too much for Bertie to cope with!

www.flickr.com/photos/lindadesantizmelksham/albums/72157695861699052 Everywhere is so dry and I was overworked again tonight, but the round planters are still looking good, as is War Memorial and Prince of Wales Garden - I am back in my shed recharging ready for tomorrow, Bertie
Walked home from work through the nature reserve today, sad to see that as aftermath of the fire, the tree lost its fight for life and quite a lot of other bushes around that area suffered badly......
Project in conjunction with Lackham College Foundation Students who grew the plugs and planted by Melksham Bloomers.... Thanks to Adrienne for the photographs.
Vanessa's earlier claim that it would rain after she had washed her car was unfounded! Another lily getting ready to flower on the pond...… much cooler this evening...
Can't help posting more photographs, the Market Place just looks so stunning....The hanging baskets made by Old Milestone Nursery looking absolutely fabulous and watered by Melksham Town Caretakers, also the planters, flowers supplied by Old Milestone, planted and maintained by MTCC. The SWIB Melksham flags celebrating the 100th anniversary of the Suffragette Movement making a fitting centre piece.
This collage was made up photographs loaned to me by Margaret Armstrong (sadly departed). Margaret told me her mother entered the carnival every year, but the children were not very keen on doing this and dreaded the carnival coming round. Also the flowers were all hand made with tissue and the house was filled with flowers all year round. They lived in the Grove next to St Michael's Church and School and this can be viewed in the background of some of the shots. Brilliant insight to past carnivals.
Thanks to Light Fantastic the Town Bridge looked nice and colourful for SWIB Melksham Judging Day on Wednesday and in readiness for Melksham Carnival on Saturday 28th July.
Bertie was looking forward to a night in, but it failed to rain he watered all the round bloom planters, War Memorial and Prince of Wales Garden. Wanda stayed at home!
Had been forecast to rain at 18:00, but the time changes as does length of how long for. Looking very much like I will be out with Bertie again this evening. Judging day may have come and gone, but the poor flowers still need to be watered...….
RHS judges Jane and Michael are announced by Peter the Town Crier. The following are a selection of photographs from yesterday and later all will be available on Flickr Melksham Now and Then. Judging day 11th July 2018.
www.flickr.com/photos/lindadesantizmelksham/albums/72157671103912778/with/42462687735/ Frantic evening, hoeing, weeding, sweeping, cigarette butt removal and watering - Prince of Wales Garden, Church Street, Lowbourne and Bank Street. It was dark when we finished, Kathy Iles and Vanessa Fiorelli - awesome team! So busy forgot to take any more pictures...…..
Sunday 8th July and counting down to judging on Wednesday.... the monthly Town Tidy was held at a later time due to the hot weather, thank you very much to all those volunteers who turned up for litter picking and bramble removal. Meanwhile, the Bloomers had been painting, watering and yarnbombing with the bunting knitted for us by 'Crazy About Knitting'...…………….talk about crazy!
Thanks to Vanessa and Liz for doing todays watering, unfortunately Bertie is really playing up - been overworked last few weeks.
Vanessa gas been busy evenings and yesterday in all that heating painting bollards, posts etc. Great job.
Sad to see this on way to work this morning. Amazing the fire was contained to that area, being it all so dry. Quite a lot of blackened leaves in churchyard.
