This week saw new planters added to the Market Place, with sustainable plants for all year round colour - much needed at the moment with rain forecast for the next week......

Project Manager Carl has been to Lackham this morning and with a small group of students has sowed 600 plugs of wildflowers. Melksham is going to look blooming lovely again this year!
Looks as if the Lackham students have been busy again today on the riverside path. Didn't catch them in action today and now they will be on 2 week Easter break.
Thank you to those who turned out on this lovely warm & sunny Sunday afternoon. A mixture of litter picking and SWIB projects carried out today - Library beds and Prince of Wales Garden. The pond is looking quite clear at the moment, Carl rescued Freddy the Frog who was caught up in pond weed.
After an alert from Adrienne today saying "The Woody is looking lovely at the moment, I've never seen so may daffodils there, I'm sure it's because of the work we did last year", I took long route home from work to take photo's for out portfolio. Amazing how the daffodils defied 2 lots of snow and still look gorgeous - also the case in many other parts of the town.......
This Sunday 25th March is Tidy Town Day – rescheduled from earlier in the month due to all the snow! If you could spare a couple of hours, please come and join us, we would love to see you. We will be meeting at the Town Hall in the Market Place for a 1pm start, finishing around 3pm. Necessary equipment is supplied but please bring along anything you have that you think may help. Please wear appropriate clothing, suitable footwear and protective gloves (we have some if you don’t!) Everyone is welcome and as always, you will be rewarded with tea and cake! We would love to see you there! If you could let me know if you can attend, that would be great - Clare Harris, Deputy Town Clerk The Lackham College students are making steady progress discovering then long buried riverside path, as well as taming the tree's and shrubs between the path and river. Keep up the good work guys!
There was a good crowd of people, including several new faces, at today’s 5th annual Community Seed Swap, held this year at the Town Hall.
The event had been postponed for 2 weeks because of the snow and ironically, it was snowing again today ... but we persevered! Come on Spring, hurry up ... there are seeds to be planted! - Kathy Iles Beautiful warm and sunny spring-like day and what better than a stroll through the park after work, although a trifle wet and muddy in places!
Just a week after the snow has melted away, the churchyard is looking lovely again, the crocus cross is more pronounced and colourful and the daffodils are out, well worth a visit...
The Lackham students were just departing when I arrived this afternoon, but great to see good progress is being made. Will await full report from Project Manager Carl Gill at tomorrow nights SWIB Melksham Meeting, which is to be held at Melksham Assembly Hall at 18:30. If you want to be part of this project or interested in any other project we are doing this year, please feel free to join us - for details message this site or check out our Facebook page www.facebook.com/SWIBMelksham/
SW in Bloom Melksham meeting scheduled for tomorrow - 7th March, is now back at Melksham Assembly Hall at 18:30. Check out this space for any further updates! otherwise will look forward to seeing you tomorrow........
Last Sunday I posted pictures of the croci in full bloom on a cold cold but blue skied sunny day. Today when I took this photograph it was bitterly cold and snowing hard.....
Due to adverse weather conditions, the Community Seed Swap which was scheduled to take place at Melksham Town Hall on Saturday 3rd March has been cancelled. A new date will be arranged, watch this site for further information.
Given the current very cold weather forecast for the weekend ahead, we have made the decision to cancel Sunday's Tidy Town, which was arranged as part of the Great British Spring Clean weekend, also cancelled.
The advice we have received from the emergency planning team at Wiltshire Council and Keep Britain Tidy is that litter pick events should not go ahead if there is any doubt about the safety of participants. The latest information we have from the Met Office is that the recent cold weather will continue into the weekend, with day time temperatures struggling to reach zero and a significant wind chill making it feel much colder. Snow is widely expected throughout the county on Thursday and into Friday, with widespread accumulations of 2cms and 5-10cms across higher areas. The low temperatures mean that any snow fall is likely to still be on the ground into Saturday and Sunday. Whilst this is disappointing, we think safety of those taking part must come first at all times. The Great British Spring Clean weekend has been rescheduled and will now take place between Friday 23 - Sunday 25th March. We will let you know our Tidy Town plans nearer the time but please do come and join us later in the month. |
