Today Carl met up with Michelle and the Lackham Students. They planted roses and removed more of the unwanted shrubs. Carl also planted a Cornus 'Midwinter Fire' to complete the trio round the 2nd Prunus tree. Everybody has done a fantastic job today.

After last week's late night crash when a drunken driver took out our planter and a street lighting post, all that was left was our shattered pot, sorry looking plants and parts of the idiots car. Mick braved the weather today, rescued the plants and soil and left the site clean and tidy. This incident was a big blow to the Bloom Team who had raised the money for new planters and plants and then last year had braved a raging thunder storm to plant them up. Great job Mick.
The Trustees and Committee members of the Melksham Charities visited the garden today, ahead of next Tuesday's meeting considering a grant funding....
Carl has been busy in the Friends Garden today - cutting the grass and tidying border on the new shrub bed. Terri and Carl then placed the new roses in planting position, ready for planting project with Lackham Students. Carl also planted the new trees in half round wall gardens.
Unfortunately, Town Tidy was advertised with short notice and not as usual on first Sunday in the month. But on way to take photo's in Friends Garden, I did spot Ruth busy in Challoner Walk.....
Very cold day, but blue skies and sunshine for Lackham Students 2nd visit to the Friends Garden. Team Lackham are impressed with the pergola. SWIB Melksham Project Manager Carl comes for a site visit and chat to Michelle, whilst I return to work, leaving the students working hard.
Andy Strange has done a great job on the Pergola, which he completed yesterday. Garden starting to take shape. Spring flowers are coming up in the flower beds and between the gravestones. Lots more work to be done. If anybody is interested in helping with this great Town Centre project, please message.
As reported on Sham Shout Outs:
This happened last night, around 11pm. A drunk driver smashed into a lamp post, after hitting the lamp post he told people who had come out of their houses and the local kebab shop that ‘nah mate, it’s ok I’ll just get back in and go’. He fled the scene and was picked up by someone in a white Mercedes estate. Andy Strange doing a fantastic job constructing the pergola in the Friends Garden, going to be a brilliant garden centre piece. Kathy and Linda visited the site lunchtime, Linda apologises for posting Andy headless! Linda returned later in the day to log the progress made. Please message if you want to be involved with this town centre project or sponsor a seat or shrub etc in memory of a loved one.
Andy Strange has made a great start today on the Pergola, twice today I went to see him in action but failed, will try again tomorrow. Going to look fantastic.....
Artistic volunteers are needed to make flags to be hung in the Market Place next year to celebrate the 800th anniversary of the Melksham Market Charter.
The flag-making sessions begin this Saturday, 27th October, from 1pm until 3pm, at the Town Hall. One of the organisers, Terri Welch says, “For 2019 we want to make medieval flags to decorate the Market Place. 2019 is the 800th anniversary of the Melksham Market Charter and special events will take place on the weekend of 28th and 29th September to mark the event. “Initially we will plan the flags and designs we wish to make, then move on to the next stage. We would welcome anybody who enjoys design or sewing, not that these are the only skills needed. So come along and play your part in the decoration of our town.” Melksham Independent News 17th January 2019.
