Bit of a dramatic end to the evening - Kathy and I had been doing some watering (that was a tale in itself!), then walked the judging route. It was 22:30 and on my way home when I spotted huge plume of smoke and I guessed to be Conigre Mead area - ran like hell through down Church Street, through cemetery, at same time dialling 999. Took ages for fire brigade to get there due to the location and no access. The new dipping bridge was well alight when I got there, now just a shell. Very upsetting to see.....

Bit of replanting in War Memorial flower beds tonight, struggled with the sapphire blue lobelia keep dying off, so tonight replaced with lavender. The roundel idea was good, but wasn't too be, may have been a different story with rain. As well as the planting and wearing Bertie out watering, the road edges were hoed and cleared. Great job done by all and thanks to new volunteer Ruth.
Bertie had his naughty head on and watered Kathy - tut tut! Everything was very dry and Bertie needed many fuelling pitstops - please just one night of rain would be good!
Jo Bayliss has sent these photographs for the portfolio, but has been completed. But I actually think it is better the judges see this for themselves on the day and be blown away! Jo has done an absolutely incredible job of this garden, she is so talented & imaginative and shows what can be achieved in a small space. Great job Jo.
The annual Civic Service, with Melksham Town Council and the Family of Churches was held today at St Michael and All Angels Parish Church. The service is a celebration of community life, as well as a service of welcome to the Mayor and Town Council.
What a beautiful floral route on way to the church for the Mayor, visiting Mayors and Town Councillors. |
