Next Town Tidy is Sunday 4th October.
A good turn out for this month's Town Tidy, massive thanks to everybody who turned up and good to see some new faces. As usual a lot of litter collected, especially cans and bottles - mainly along the river path and Conigre Mead Nature Reserve and also the highly dangerous nitrous oxide canisters (laughing gas) - if only the users realised they how detrimental to health they are and the discarded canisters and balloons are dangerous to wildlife.
Next Town Tidy is Sunday 4th October.

On the first Sunday of August (2nd) there will be another socially distanced Town Tidy Day, being facilitated by the Melksham Bloomers.
We plan to hold these events on the first Sunday of each month from 1-3pm, starting and finishing outside the Town Hall for registration and equipment collection and return. Equipment will be sanitised before and after use. Please wear clothing and footwear suitable for the weather and the type of work you want to do. All litter picking equipment is provided but we ask you now, to please BRING YOUR OWN GLOVES and YOUR OWN DRINKS as we will not have access into the Town Hall. ***We expect all volunteers to be mindful of the Government’s guidance on social distancing at all times and to wear a face mask when necessary please.*** EVERYONE WELCOME Sunday 2nd August 2020 1.00 - 3.00pm, Town Hall, Market Place, Melksham. *after registration, volunteers will be covered by the Town Council’s liability insurance. This afternoon we had a wonderful first Town Tidy Day since before lockdown began.
Our new safe and socially distanced event was attended by 18 lovely, keen volunteers who covered many areas in town including King Street carpark, Prince of Wales Garden, Iceland carpark, Avon Place, Riverside Walk, KGV, Littlebrook Centre, Melksham House and the forecourt of The King’s Arms, filling more than a dozen large black sacks full of rubbish and weeds. Thank you everyone! Future Town Tidy Days will be held on the first Sunday of every month from 1-3pm, meeting outside the Town Hall for registration. Once registered, volunteers will be covered by the Town Hall’s volunteer insurance. Litter pickers, refuse bags and rings will be provided, but please bring your own gloves and any other equipment you may prefer to use. Please dress for the weather and working conditions and bring a drink. All ages and abilities welcomed. Kathy Iles, Chair of Bloom (Photos by Linda De Santiz) Prickly start for Danyl's first Town Tidy Day! Danyl & Bloomer Linda gingerly removed 2 bagful's of rubbish from the lethal pyracantha bush by the Town Bridge. Ruth and nephews also collected bagful's of rubbish from round town. Thanks also to the people who turned out for the Saturday tidy.
Good turn out for Sunday's Town Tidy, thank you to those who did the Saturdays one. Great to see new faces and good to know the Melksham News advert was responsible. A lot of litter was collected on both days. Big thank you to everyone who turned up to help....
Great turn out again for todays Town Tidy, looks like going forward we will be doing the Town Tidy on a Saturday and Sunday, first full weekend of the month. Good to have new people joining us. Shocking the amount of litter that was picked up today. Apart from cigarette butts the town centre is pretty good, but cut throughs pretty bad, especially between Broughton Road and Bradford Road - short cut to Asda (thoroughfare by day and drinking venue by night - area's like this will now be under scrutiny!.....
Terri and her team had thier first flag making workshop today in the Town Hall. If you want to be involved, the workshops are held every other week at the Town Hall 1.00-3.00pm, the next one to be held 18th January.
Well done to all involved - Vanessa, Ruth, Ethan, Nick, Miriam, Pat and Julie, great job done today...
